ALMSGIVING AND DONATIONS
Our first project of almsgiving was for two young mothers in Wayne County, Michigan …one with three children, the other had one. Both were struggling badly to make ends meet. We found that the single mother of three had a stigma in her eyes that caused her not to see well. This hindered her getting a good job for she felt she could not READ well. We immediately took her to an eye glass center and got her eyes tested, and then purchased the glasses for her right there. She could then read well enough to learn to drive. Knowing that food was a problem for her kids we of course supplied her weekly with food until they got on there feet. It was our pleasure and privilege to do this because compassion that meets a need is just God’s way.
The second mother of one, was scooping ice cream at a mall for minimum wage. We used our own computer to teach her word processing and to find out why she wasn’t reading well. She likewise had a seeing problem that we were able to fix by paying for her eye exam and buying her the eye glasses prescribed. She was such a quick learner after receiving her eye glasses that she passed a test at a employment agency and landed a job at General Motors as a secretary working on the computer making nearly twice the hourly amount that we found her working for. She told us that Love Your Neighbor changed her life. We then began to understand the importance of people being able to read and we wanted to start with the children and to include as many adults as were willing to admit to the need… and to help.
This turned into our Emergency Needs Program for food, clothing, eye glasses, sleeping bags, coats, school supplies etc. Free Reading Program.
In
return for your giving God will (1) get you out of trouble (tests
or trials) (2) You will have a good life and (2a) God will not let
the desire of your enemies overcome you (3) God will heal you of
all your sickness. Do you want that in writing? Here it is in
scripture Psalms 41:1-3 Blessed is he that considereth the poor:
the Lord will (1) deliver him in time of trouble. (2) The Lord will
preserve him and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the
earth; and (2a) and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of
his enemies. (3) The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of
languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness Psalms
